The
Thermal-Based Liquid Desiccant Air Conditioner consists of four modules: Air
Movement, Dehumidification, Temperature Adjustment and Regeneration Modules.
The first 3 modules may be combined while the Regeneration module may be placed
separately with connection by small plastic pipes and electrical service.
Systems are available in 3000, 4500 and 6000 Series that provide 1,800, 2,750
and 4,000 cfm respectively.
Outdoor air driven by the Air Movement Module enters the air supply side of the
Dehumidification Module. There, through the process of multi-stage differential
dehumidification, its moisture content decreases without temperature increase.
This dry air flows into the Temperature Adjustment Module where it is cooled by
indirect evaporative cooling and optionally by direct evaporative cooling
(saturation) and is then distributed to the building. Saturator moisture
addition is controlled by an indoor humidistat thereby maintaining a
comfortable indoor relative humidity even in harsh climates.
After gaining heat and moisture in the building, the air enters the return side
of the Temperature Adjustment Module where it is cooled to its saturation
temperature in the indirect evaporative coolers and then flows to the return
side of the Dehumidification Module. There it remains saturated and increases
in temperature while absorbing heat from the supply air by means of
liquid-to-liquid heat exchangers. Finally, the exhaust air is discharged into
the atmosphere. The desiccant solution becomes diluted after absorbing moisture
from the air in the Dehumidification Module. It is recirculated to the
Regenerator Module to be reconcentrated and returned to the Dehumidification
Module for reuse.
For certain fresh air or dehumidification applications, the modules may be
specified separately rather than as a complete system. For example, the
Dehumidification and Regenerator modules may be used together when GENIUS is
specified as part of a larger system. Alternatively, for a stand alone
dehumidification system, the Air Movement module may be added.
